Do you know what the new charter amendment really means?
If you haven't seen the breakdown already, click the link on the homepage. It's shocking how far this amendment would go to stop progress. It would allow nothing on rails on city rights of way, and no money from any source to be spent on planning and preparation -- for 10 years!Labels: charter amendment, passenger rail

It seems to me there is just never going to be a let-up in the vehemence of the antipathy to spending public dollars on raii-based transit in Cincinnati. How many times has the matter of a streetcar in Cincinnati been brought before the voters? Up 'til now, more people have voted in favor of the project than have opposed it. But the depth of bitterness and rancor over this seemingly will never let up. Even if Cincinnatians vote down this latest ploy to derail the streetcar, the opponents will seek yet other ways to stop it.
It seems that maybe it is simply time to let this matter go - there is just too much opposition to it to make any further efforts to build it practicable. When even the governor of Ohio has come out against it, your cause is lost. I think it would be best to take a long break, leave the city as it is, and move on.
