CityBeat Separates Facts from FictionIn an article posted Thursday on CityBeat's politics/issues blog, http://www.citybeat.com/ Kevin Osborne parses a "strange" and error-filled Facebook post by Issue 48 co-sponsor Christopher Smitherman. Osborne recaps the erroneous post and notes, "As several legal experts have agreed, Issue 48's net effect will be to stop the planning and construction of any type of passenger rail project within Cincinnati city limits until Dec. 31, 2020 — even if the project is privately financed." Osborne also points out that the national NAACP adopted a resolution in 2009 in support of local rail projects, including streetcars and light rail. (Smitherman, who temporarily stepped down from the presidency of the local NAACP chapter to run for city council, allied the local NAACP chapter with COAST to promote Issue 48.) Labels: City Beat
